A new up and comer on the Twitter scene is a free program called "Twit Longer" (located at TwitLonger.com). And, just like the name says, it let's you post a tweet to Twitter that is longer than the 140 characters allowed.
It's a exiguous dissimilar than posting on Twitter itself, instead what you do is make your post at Twit Longer and the program will then update your Twitter account adding a link to the longer text you originally entered.
Ufo Sightings
The program is wholly free to use and you plainly need to sign in with your own Twitter account in order to start using it.
Type in as long of a message as you'd like and when you're finished, post the message. When you next take a look at your own Twitter status, you'll see that the message has been added and you'll even see a small measure of the message you created. It will then have (cont) after this snippet of text with a link that points to the area on Twit Longer where your message is located.
At first descry you might wonder what the point is to adding a post longer than 140 characters - because unquestionably this is what Twitter's whole purpose is, to let you update your status in as short of a manner possible. But, if you use Twitter, you'll know that this can often be a challenge, especially when you have a unquestionably long website address that you want to share.
So if you wanted to clarify that you were posting a link on Twitter about a brand new Ufo sighting for instance, and the website address you wanted to send person to was SomeWebsite.com/new-ufo-pictures/texas/3-am-may-2010 (not a real website address by the way), this contains 52 characters alone and I haven't even included the http :// in front of it yet which would bring it to 59 characters all by itself. Add to that the description you want to give the link and you'll end up over 140 characters in no time flat.
To be fair, there are abundance of Url shortener's online that will sacrifice the web address to something a exiguous more manageable, but, it's still taking up space that you could use to get a message across.
Now not all of your messages will comprise a web address but sometimes you'll reply to another person on Twitter and when you do that, you'll need to place the "@" fastener in front of their name, and their name then takes up a measure of your 140 character count.
I know that I personally have had to even split messages between two tweets just to clarify something well. And while you do all you can in order to get your message across, such as maybe changing "you" to just "u", removing spaces, and deleting punctuation, it sometimes just doesn't do the trick.
It's prominent to note that even though the program is free, it still does need resources and to offset these reserved supply expenses, they run Google's AdSense ads on the posts but do state that if you're uncomfortable with that, don't use the service.
You'll obviously not use this for every tweet you make, and likely wouldn't want to, but for those times when 140-characters plainly isn't enough, just use Twit Longer and your followers will be able to view your whole message in full.
